Netflix’s Bubble from director Tetsurō Araki (Attack on Titan, Death Note) offers a different take on this trope, one uniquely suited for 2022. Instead of a bubble constructed to keep chaos out, it’s a bubble to preserve the perfect ruinporn of post-apocalyptic Tokyo. Life goes on beyond its boundaries, as roving bands of orphans competing in parkour tournaments for the entertainment of outsiders are nurtured by stay-behind scientists and pearly stray bubbles create gravitational anomalies.
