This study examined psychosocial changes in bloggers and nonbloggers after using MySpace for 2 months. Using nonbloggers as a control group enabled analysis of whether any psychosocial changes were likely due to online networking in general or to blogging per se. The variables examined included psychological distress and social support. Bloggers' levels of social integration and reliable alliance increased over time, while there were no significant changes for nonbloggers. Higher levels of social integration suggest that bloggers feel greater belonging to a group of likeminded people with interests and ways of thinking similar to their own.
